The quarterly children's magazine Oliver is unique in our country. With the magazine, the UZA wants to give children who have been ill for a long time more insight into their treatment, thus reducing their stress.
Each issue we build up around a medical topic that the children have to deal with: the anesthesia, the scan, blood sampling, allergies.
Mascot Ollie
The magazines have a strong visual and action-oriented design. Especially for the magazine, we developed the mascot elephant Ollie. He leads us through the subject from the cover to the last page.
We bring a rebus, a photo diary of a youngster, interesting facts about the subject and a removable section to tinker with. We conclude with a real photo story in which elephant Ollie himself undergoes medical treatment - such as blood sampling or a scan - in the hospital.
Long shelf life
The magazines are used for years. The teaching assistants read them with the young patients in the hospital themselves when the topic becomes relevant to them. The photo stories are mailed to the children or their parents at appropriate times.
